ELSIE ELIZABETH GILLESPIE (nee MELYMUK) 1927 - 2010 Elsie died peacefully on February 28th at Riverview Health Centre. She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon Gillespie, son Bruce Gillespie, brothers, Tony and Mickey, and sisters, Julie, Adeline, and Jen. Surviving Elsie are her daughters: Patti Gillespie, Janet Rodie (Doug), and Lois Gillespie; daughter-in-law, Alison Preston; grandchildren, Charmaine and Sean Rodie; sister Frances (Nane); sister-in-law Janet; and many nieces and nephews. Elsie grew up on Alfred Avenue in the North End. Soon after their marriage, she and Gordon moved to the house on Glenlawn Crescent in St. Vital where they raised their family and lived until Gordon died in 2000. She was a wonderful cook and hosted hundreds of spectacular dinners over the years. It's hard to imagine tastier pickled beets or perogies. Elsie had a love of animals that extended to caring for the birds that visited the back yard feeding stations in the cold Winnipeg winters. They never went without. We would like to thank the staff members on the fourth floor of Riverview for their care and kindness toward Elsie. In keeping with Elsie's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. Memorial donations in Elsie's memory may be made to Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E. J. COUTU CO.
